Nahid Islam Labels Jamaat-e-Islami’s PR Movement as a “Planned Political Deception”

NCP Convener Nahid Islam accused Jamaat-e-Islami of orchestrating a politically motivated PR movement to derail constitutional reforms and manipulate national dialogue. He claimed Jamaat’s actions were never about reform but about expanding political influence under disguise.

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has described Jamaat-e-Islami’s PR-based movement as a planned political deception. According to him, the primary goal of this campaign was to obstruct the Reform Commission’s initiatives and divert the national dialogue—emerging after the public uprising—from the core issues of state and constitutional restructuring.

In a verified Facebook post on Sunday (October 19), Nahid Islam stated that the so-called movement for a proportional representation (PR) voting system and the establishment of an upper house was initially presented as a constitutional safeguard. However, Jamaat and its allies hijacked this agenda, transforming it into a mere PR strategy for their own political gains rather than genuine reform.

He further explained that Jamaat had never participated in the reform dialogue—neither before nor after the July uprising. The party, according to Nahid, offered no substantial proposals, constitutional perspectives, or commitments to democratic republican values. Their sudden expression of support within the Reform Commission was not based on belief or ideology, but rather a disguised political intervention.

Nahid added that the people of Bangladesh now clearly understand this deception. The public has awakened to the truth and will no longer be misled by false reformists or opportunistic political players.

He concluded by stating that neither the Almighty nor the sovereign people of Bangladesh will tolerate dishonest, opportunistic, and morally weak forces holding power ever again.
